Our History

1916

Origins and Early Development

Mildura United traces its roots back to 1916, when it was established as the Helenic Sporting Club Inc., primarily serving the local Greek community. For many years, records of the club’s activities are sparse, but the organisation remained a stronghold for Greek players, with as many as 20 sponsors supporting it up until the 1990s.

1970s

EVOLUTION OF THE CLUB

During the early 1970s, the Mildura United name became recognised in the community, though the club’s Greek heritage continued to be prominent. In the 1980s, the senior men’s team achieved notable success, winning the competition and further cementing the club’s reputation.

1992

A TURNING POINT TOWARDS INCLUSIVITY

In 1992, a significant change occurred under the leadership of President Chris Tsivoglou. After an encounter with Koori children in Merbein, who had been throwing rocks at his car, Mr Tsivoglou approached an older relative of the children and asked if he could teach the youngsters ball skills, offering them a productive outlet. The man agreed, and those youths went on to become successful, law-abiding individuals. This event marked a shift in the club’s direction, emphasising inclusivity and establishing Mildura United as a club of opportunity.
